I’ve been working on some baby things. In the last few months, two friends have given birth and a third friend is about to have hers soon. I love to make tiny snugly gifts for new babies that come into my life. When my son was an infant, it brought me such joy to make something warm and cozy for him to wear. Four years later, he still prefers soft knits to other fabrics and favors the socks I make him over all others.
These three new lives will all experience their first winter as newborns. To keep them warm I made each one a hat and booties. The Barley Hat by Tin Can Knits is a free pattern sized for the whole family. I love this hat! It is a quick and simple knit hat with a garter stitch panel. Tin Can Knit patterns are always exceptionally written and easy to follow, even for a beginner. For one of the hats, I added a fun little pompom on top to match the booties.
I strongly believe that children (and adults too!) should get outside every day. I know it helps me feel calmer and able to deal with my day if I go for a walk, even if it’s cold or rainy. Wearing the right clothing helps. To keep my infant son’s feet warm I searched out a pattern for booties that would stay put. After trying several other patterns I found Dreamy Baby Booties by Veronica Van on Ravelry. These booties stay on!
